The Importance of Natural Medicine.
Our health is in Nature.
Throughout my stories, it is easy to realize there are things in my life that have shaped my way of being and my existence without a doubt.
Besides being bi-national by birth and bilingual, I lived my childhood and youth straddling two cities and two nations. This provided me with an almost unhealthy curiosity to know all of Europe and to study its History in depth, which gave me a deep knowledge of the transit of Humanity through this planet and how our western civilization was formed and advanced. As a consequence of this historical knowledge, I am totally impervious to all kinds of political ideology, politicians and systems — everything is simply transient.
In addition, my studies of Esotericism created such a deep spiritual anchor inside me, that I was not only careful not to mix with people with psychological and mental problems, but I have also been very sober in drinking and eating, knowing we have to take care of our body in order to fulfill our Divine Plan. As a result, thanks to God I have reached a mature age without any serious health setbacks, and although I am already on the pensioner’s list, I enjoy an excellent health.
A few days ago I went to the ophthalmologist to see what can be done with my left eye. I have always had myopia in this eye since I was 12 years old — that is, I didn’t see well far away. So I can say that with my right eye I could distinguish everything around me and far away, and I only used my left eye to read. But, the myopia has been progressing, I guess due to the use of the cell phone and the hours working on the computer. Or perhaps, the eye has been deteriorating for various reasons. I read a lot in books, on my cell phone and on my laptop, so I suspect my left eye is crying out for repair.
Thinking about an operation to correct myopia, the ophthalmologist asked me: “What medication are you taking?”. When I answered I don’t have any, he stared at me in disbelief. I had to explain to him I don’t believe in official, chemical medicine, and I was never sickly. Except for the statutory vaccinations, I don’t remember taking any medicines as a child. In fact, I was injected antibiotics only once in my life, when as an (almost) adult woman my wisdom teeth came out very badly, with inflammation of the face included. Although I protested, there was no other alternative. At that time I was living in London and was admitted to the Hospital to have all four molars removed at the same time to avoid further problems. Everything seems to indicate antibiotics were necessary.
When I started living my adult life, I always had an aversion to taking any kind of medication, and instead sought out a Homeopathic or Naturopathic Doctor if I had a passing ailment. I remember healing myself with herbs for anything, and continue to do the same. I admit I come from a family with no serious illnesses of any kind, and both my grandparents and my parents and their siblings have lived to an advanced age — one of my maternal uncles lived to be 98 years old.
In one of the many esoteric books I have read, the Masters of Wisdom say everything the human being needs to heal his body is in Nature. In all countries there are medicinal plants. Mexico has many herbs for any possible ailment; but today with globalization, it is very normal to obtain in herbalists, Chinese stores or Amazon healing plants from any country in the world.
Please, let nobody understand with this I would eliminate from the world the official medicine we have today in all the health systems of the democratic countries. NO. I believe in the advancement of Humanity at all levels, but it is also necessary to be intelligent, first not to despise other options, and second to know when to use them really.
It goes without saying that in cases of emergency, no one can doubt the work of doctors to save a person’s life is incredible. We have to use chemistry and drugs, respirators, different devices to pump blood or liquids, etc. They are very welcome! But I do not agree an ailment, from mild to severe, should always be fought with chemicals, which very often — or always! — create side effects, opening the possibility of generating another disease.
I knew someone who liked to eat too much. He was not obese, but . . . let’s say chubby. He would eat whatever he liked without thinking about his body. In a few years, he developed acute gastritis that required treatment. He did not stop consuming whatever he fancied eating and took the prescribed medications. Some time later, he was diagnosed with diabetes, so . . . more drugs. Later, her blood pressure and cholesterol shot up and . . . more chemistry. He had a cardiac crisis and . . . more substances. I think by then he was taking more than 8 or 10 medications a day.
The gentleman in my story, one day he just died suddenly sitting on an armchair, and his family didn’t realize it until many hours later. Yikes!
What would have happened if that person, after his gastritis, had begun to be more sober in eating and had sought medicinal plants to cure himself? Very possibly he would not have developed diabetes, nor would his blood pressure and cholesterol have rocketed up, nor would he have gone to the hospital with a heart emergency, nor . . . would he have died of a heart arrest on any given day. I am sure he would have had a good quality of life and would have lived longer and better.
Although no plant or herb can assure us the immortality of the body — nor do I believe it would be wise to wish for it — I think human beings should try at all costs to have a good quality of life, because living with 8 or 10 medicines a day is not living correctly. Most of our ailments are usually transitory and treated with herbs can disappear without a trace. Others may be psychosomatic and require more time, but there are plants for those too.
The truth is that by putting chemicals into the body we do not achieve anything positive, and we actually worsen the natural ability of the body to heal itself. In the long run, we compromise our Immune System and our quality of life.
Let’s seek our health in Nature, and leave hospitals alone except in emergencies.
In my next story, I will give the names of the most useful plants and herbs for self-healing. Of course, we must first know for sure what we have and that is what Doctors are for.
(For the record, I do not own a medical or naturopathic business. I am just a health lover and have an excellent quality of life after all my life healing myself with herbs, plants and barks of medicinal trees).
