Do Not Underestimate the Power of Prayer.

The power of people acting together is absolutely invincible.

Though I will start with historical events, this story is not about History, but how people acting together can defeat any obstacle in this world. There are plenty of instances, yet I will mention only two.

When Rome suffered the most disastrous military defeat in its history at Cannas, 216 B.C., inflicted by the Carthaginians, the whole known world considered it a great humiliation for the emerging power, and there was no lack of those who thought it would no longer raise its head and was finished as a first-rate city. Evidently that happening was a critical historical moment, extremely important for Rome.

Rome and Carthage were competing for global hegemony, and the known world was closely following the course of events.

From that horrible battle onwards and for years, Rome was avoiding confrontation with Carthage, but studying all the movements of its rival and also waging a war of attrition against them. If the Carthaginians advanced to war, Rome retreated to avoid another possible defeat, but hurting its enemy and learning something more about it. Rome retained for years this dilatory attitude.

While the Roman legions prepared for long periods of time thinking about the inevitable great battle against Carthage, the members of the Senate ended their speeches by saying: “Delenda est Carthago” (Carthage must be destroyed). This statement was also repeated by the soldiers. Anyone would think it was unnecessary, but when the dreaded and beloved moment came, 146 B.C., Rome destroyed Carthage in such a way its rival disappeared forever from Universal History. However, Rome continued its slow but sure ascent to become one of the most important empires of the Western Civilization.

Undoubtedly, the continuous mantra of Romans affirming and asking their gods -yes, plural, because Monotheism was still a bit far away-, was what we could now call a prayer.

Another episode is also well known by all historians, and even by some survivors of World War II (if there are still any left), took place during a critical moment during the European conflict. Winston Churchill asked English people to stop at 10:00pm every day and pray for England. This was because German aircraft began bombing the island almost every day. The British obeyed, and at 10:00pm sharp they would be silent and pray for a few minutes.

The bombardments ceased, and although their troops were defeated in Europe, they reached the coastal town of Dunkerk, France. Then, fearfully (but decisively) they were able to make “the Great Evacuation”; that is, to boat their troops stranded on a French beach across the English Channel, and . . . without a single German aggression.

Bearing in mind these very real experiences, I could still let you know about another situation mentioned to me by a friend in Europe, who could not get over her astonishment when she experienced it. However, I do not have any trustworthy evidence to prove this story, such as those in History.

The moral we should infer from these stories is that God listens to us when we ask for something for the common good and we ask Him/Her with faith. That shows we are not alone on this planet and God . . . well, . . . maybe somewhere, but we are not quite sure. No. The Universe is a whole, and we are all within Him/Her, so what we can do together is incredible, because we are all divine energy and we multiply it, building synergy.

Today, most people lack Faith. We are used to believe that achieving things only depends on us. We are convinced we, human beings, single-handedly, have done everything on this planet, but it is not true. Who has inspired the conquerors, reformers, discoverers; and the scientists and inventors? Who enlightens the mind of a military man with an idea that saves a nation or wins a battle or a war? They are all part of God, and He/She gives us what we need as we go along.

Let us not understand that “as we go along” means we are all at the same level and we evolve at the same speed. However, when there are improvements, most of us make use of them. Example: I did not discover the Internet, but I use it. I didn’t invent the washing machine either, but I use it. I get on an airplane and enjoy flying, even though I don’t understand how it actually does it. I follow the news of what they are doing on Mars, but I don’t know how they got there even if I drink a bottle of wine. Etc, etc, etc.

This means a person would have to live too far away from the centers of civilization and still be in a primitive state of evolution not to take advantage of the progress of Humanity.

I propose that 6 months before the next elections, every family stops at a time when all members are at home -maybe at 9 or 10pm- and do the same as the English did, asking God we could “evacuate” all corrupt politicians.

Just don’t tell God who or how, much less when, because we cannot be sure our opinions are absolute truths, which will surely be tinged with our own personal problems. And although He/She knows very well what to do, we have to comply with what Jesus said: “Ask and it will be given to you”. We are co-creators. Our thoughts create. Our requests, too. In an esoteric book, I read that after asking and crying out, let’s be quiet, stay out of the way, and let the higher forces act.

God can only be prayed to implement His Divine Plan of Perfection for this planet Earth at this time, and with that we fix everything, . . . whatever God deems right to correct or improve now. This is trusting in Divine Wisdom.

By the middle of the year 2022, I will remind all who read me of the need to affirm God’s Divine Plan of Perfection be manifested in America. Let’s see who joins in this national prayer. The change we could generate in our country would be a quantum leap.

Thank you.
